No officers hurt in Mesa police shooting; teen suspects in custody

The Mesa Police Department says no officers were hurt in a Thursday night police shooting, and two teen suspects were taken into custody.

It happened on June 12 in a residential neighborhood near Broadway and Sossaman roads just after 4:45 p.m.

SkyFOX flew over the scene, and we saw a truck with a shattered windshield, crime scene tape strewn around at least one home and several investigators on the residential road.

Mesa Police Det. Brandi Myers said the city's real-time crime center alerted officers to a stolen car near Power Road and Main Street. When officers attempted to stop the car with a Grappler device, it didn't work.

The car reportedly then drove into a cul-de-sac, drove onto lawns, then came at a police car head-on. That's when the shooting happened.

Det. Myers says two 17-year-old boys were inside the car. The driver had an injury to his hand and will be OK, and the passenger was not hurt.

Det. Myers says that the car the teens were driving was stolen out of Mesa on June 5.

She says it doesn't appear the teens were armed with any weapons.

What's next:

Criminal charges are pending.

The Tempe Police Department is investigating the shooting.
